Collège Saint-Charles-Garnier Canada Saint-Charles-Garnier Collège, founded in 1635 by the Jesuits, is the oldest French college of North America. It is a government funded private secondary school for girls and boys aged between 12 and 17. Saint-Charles-Garnier is recognized in Canada for its high educational standards, as well as its pedagogical and intercultural approach. The Collège is located in the heart of historical Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which takes pride in its hospitality and is also a very safe city. Saint-Charles-Garnier offers total immersion in a 98% French environment. From around the world, students and teachers of French second language have been coming to the Collège for over 40 years. They have received linguistic training and courses in the French language and have benefited from the many cultural and leisurely activities of the region. Located near the St.-Lawrence river, the Collège is also only 10 minutes away from downtown (quick and efficient public transportation) and only 20 minutes from the mountains. In addition to its French summer program "En français à Québec!" (students from 14 to 17 years of age), the Collège also offers an English Summer Program "English in Victoria!", BC (14 to 18 years of age). Both these 5 week programs span over July and the beginning of August. The Collège also offers a program called "French High School Studies" from September to June. Students live either in residence or with a family. A very rigorous selection of the host families is made in order to verify the families values and their motives. Professional supervision not only on a personal level but also on a family and social level is a top priority. International students can rely on an available and considerate personnel, skilled in interpersonal relations and knowledgeable about parents' requests. The international students live in host families who are carefully selected by the people in charge of the program. The choice of families will be based on these criterias: moral and family values, leisure activities they practice, and the everyday life (a copy of the grid can be forwarded upon request). To facilitate the integration of the student into the social and scholar community, a twinning to a quebecker is organized and is supervised by a regular teacher at Saint-Charles-Garnier.
