Applied Linguistics Centre has enjoyed an excellent reputation with English our language students form around the world.  Our school has been serving English as a Second Language students for more than 25 years.  We have a modern language learning facility close to the downtown business district of Winnipeg.  This is the capital city of the province of Manitoba and is a unique city of 683,000 people from many cultures around the world.  People come and make there home here because Winnipeg offers a great quality of life.  It is a clean, safe and very comfortable place to live.  Our school has an enrolment for around 170 students. Our class size is usually 15 students.  Our teachers are all government accredited and specialize in ESL instruction.  The high quality of our education is very affordable with tuition usually $600.CDN per month and homestay is available for about the same cost.

 

 

 

Our English courses begin at the basic level and progress to intermediate and advanced levels. This intensive multi-level program can be tailored to the student's individual needs. Upon enrollment, each student is assessed with a placement test and then introduced to a suitable classroom at their learning level. Continuous progress is possible in step with English language acquisition.  The usual time required for completion form basic to advanced levels varies accordingly to the student’s abilities (usually 6 to 9 months). ESL certificates are issued for each of the three levels: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced.

 

 

 

We use a wide range of teaching methods, including audio-visual materials, computer language exercises, conversational role-play and other unique learning strategies. Students often visit local cultural landmarks such as museums and historical sites with our teachers.  Classes are between 9:00 AM and 2:45 PM, Monday to Friday. Classes are small and the atmosphere is relaxed.  Students are encouraged to interact with the teachers and other students. Our teachers work toward helping each student expand vocabulary, practice speaking and listening, improve reading comprehension, and development strong writing skills. These are all essential components of English communication and are taught thoroughly here at the Applied Linguistics Centre.

 

 

 

We are a recognized TOEFL and TOEIC training facility. TOEFL is a rigorous and challenging course. TOEFL elevates the student's knowledge of the English language to fluency to levels acceptable for university entrance.  A student scoring 550 or better on the TOEFL test is able to apply to one of the four local university to continue studying.  TOEFL is designed to provide an international uniform benchmark to foreign students wanting to enter any English university. TOEIC is a program based on testing for business English common in international trade and finance. It prepares the students to find employment in today's business world. English is often the language of International commerce. International students and business people from all over the world will be happy to know that Canada's customs and cultural values are taught as an integral part of the language training.
